I listen to motivational speaking on a regular basis.  I believe that if I am motivated that energy will transfer to the students.

If I engage the students on an individual basis, then perhaps they will be engaged in me as an educator, and we can function as a group with mutual goals.

Debate supports collaboration as often demonstrated in team research.  As students prepare for individual speaking events they are often working alone.

Fostering a happy and fun environment.

I like Kounin's research on classroom management strategies.  When attempting to be more responsive to problematic situations I believe Love and Logic and Natural Consequences work well in the Debate classroom.  If students do not practice, they will not perform well in competition.  I can be supportive and compassionate along with reminding students of the importance of working in order to succeed.
