I helped the students create a fundraiser.  The premise was that students would use Debate skills in a real-world application. The students decided to solicit money from local businesses in exchange for advertising space on the back of the team t-shirt.  Students created goals, arguments, engaged in researching businesses, and made phone appointments with businesses (cross examination).  Lastly the Debate presidency dressed in tournament dress and presented a letter written based on the arguments created in class.  While the $1,000 raised was not our ultimate goal, I believe students learned the application and value of skills learned in Speech and Debate events.

Read the letter.

The above letter of recommendation describes in part how I have attempted to collaborate with the Utah Speech and Debate coaching community.

Sai's words

Sai, a Kearns High student, and I collaborated to streamline Impromptu instruction and make it more accessible to all students, which ultimately led to more students succeeding at the event. Impromptu speakers have accumulated over fifteen awards in the 2015-16 Yr.

I asked Sai's mom at the beginning of the year if I could do home visits. Read her letter of recommendation above.
