I am performing a "Ted Talk" in which I discuss how the needs of each learner may not be met unless education focuses on individuals and not mass instruction. Critical thinking needs to be valued in modern education.
I have been thankful for my relationship with a mentor coach in the Utah community. She has supported my growth and allowed me numerous opportunities to address concerns and ask questions which have benefited my growth as an instructor.
The Kearns Region and state Impromptu team: Marian (2nd place, 8th place), Sai (5th place, 4th place), and Gabe (1st place, 2nd place).
The nice thing about Speech and Debate is that it lends itself to obvious evidence. If I have a competitor that is continuously successful in competition, I can assume that student is beginning to maximize their potential. On the contrary, I need to provide reteaches or adapt my practice until a competitor who has not yet been successful meets their individual goals. Read John's story.
Second place overall as a team at a local tournament.
All together the team has won over 100 individual awards.
At the USU Eastern tournament the team won over $11,000 in Scholarships. In 2015-16 season Kearns had five national qualifiers.
